Playground Rubber Nuggets

Thank you so much for the suggestions for our playground. Not only is the playground aesthetically pleasing, but the children love the rubber nuggets and call it their "bouncy" playground. I have never seen children literally bounce back from a fall, it's reassuring to know that the children are much safer and happier outside now. Thank you again for being so helpfull and accommodating and getting the product delivered to us in such a timely manner.

Your Rubber Nuggets has been fantastic. Surprising how bouncy it is. Kids and adults alike are very impressed with the rubber mulch. I have not heard one bad comment from anyone. The communication during the transaction from you, (Rob Kirk), was nothing less than excellent. Your product and you deserve a well done all around. It has been a pleasure doing business with you.

Rubber Nuggets

We are very satisfied with the price, service, and quality of the rubber mulch we
purchased from IP Surfacing. The Playground Rubber Nuggets (black) looks great and provides
a nice, cushioned surface for our boys and their friends to run, jump, and
play on. We would highly recommend IP Surfacing to anyone looking for
alternatives to grass or wood mulch underneath their swing set.

Thank you for your recent replacement of the aged Rubber Tiles access surface at two of our playgrounds.  It is refreshing to have the owner of the company provide direct supervision of his crew.  Your input on color choice was welcome and complimented the equipment. You provided swift proposals that were competitively priced, quality installations and fast response for a minor warrantee repair.

We will be sure to call you concerning our next access/safety surface installation.

Dear Rob,

Firstly let me thank you for the great job you and your team did on the play surface you set at our home. Working with you has been great, and the result is as expected both in terms of safety and visual appearance, it's a great product. I thought I'd share with you some of the reasons I selected the particular product, and your company as the installers.

When considering what play surface to put under my newly constructed play set, there were a number of critical factors:

1. The physical safety of both my children, and those of guests

2. The long-term cost of maintenance and replacing any materials

3. Hygiene, whether pets and wild animals are attracted to the product used

4. The actual appearance of the finished product

5. The quality and reliability of the product and the installer

6. The cost

Obviously the physical safety of my own children was the primary reason for installing some safety material, for many people it is a simple equation based upon their desire to protect their kids, and the cost of the available options. Few consider the potential issues related to other peoples kids using their play set. Not only is there the emotional issue if a child is hurt, but potentially legal too, nothing can excuse you from the base liability for the safety of people on your property, however having provided a demonstrably safe environment might well limit the chance of any claims against you in the event of an accident.

I feel confident that I have chosen a surface which is today, and will remain, a very safe choice, which I could justify in the event of any mishaps. The long-term cost is another significant issue, especially with loose materials which get tracked into the landscaping, blown around or dug through by animals. Many loose materials also loose mulch of their benefit when wet. And animals love most loose materials, whether it is pets or wild animals, sand, gravel and wood chips can range from entertaining to dig in, to a great toilet depending on the animal who finds it. Having a yard full of active rabbits, birds and all sorts of other animals, I have seen what they do to the bark in yard, it gets everywhere. The appearance of the product is often a small consideration, but hopefully the play set will last for my kids, and possibly even for their kids, so we're going to live with this for a long time.

Quality and reliability go hand-in-hand with the appearance. I wanted the product to remain good through years of service and I wanted it to be well installed by a professional team. It's certainly well installed, only time will tell for the product, but as it copes in commercial playgrounds I am certain it will last my kids!

In my mind cost was important, but lower on the list than the rest, I cannot put a price on my own children's safety, and that ignoring the potential issues of others safety. There is no question that this is not a cheap solution initially, but in my mind it is clearly the best for the reasons above. I suspect that overtime it will actually be very cost effective, with no maintenance, no refilling of tracked materials and no retainers to keep preserving, it will save dollars but as importantly to me it will not cause me to have to waste time on it.

Great job, great product, good service, good luck with bringing this whole new level of safety to residential play sets. The statistics for accidents on home play sets are scary, I feel really pleased I've invested in providing the best solution to help mitigate those risks!

We moved to Denver in 2004 and with 3 small children buying a good quality play structure was on our 'to do list'.  We had had a jungle gym in a previous house and had used wood chips on the ground together with unsightly railroad ties to keep it all in place.  It turned out to be quite expensive but did at least soften falls.  I always needed to keep my toddler from eating it though!  As fall arrived and the leaves came down, there was a new hassle of getting rid of the leaves without getting rid of half the wood chips we had just bought!  It was one of those situations where you 'live and learn'.

When we moved here I shopped around for play structures and bought one in winter to get a better deal.  I was hoping for less hassle by using the same firm to also take care of the ground covering aspect too.  This time I had read up on rubber mulch and liked the sound of that.  But how could it cost so much?  And again there were the big borders needed to keep it all in place...  The ground covering seemed more of a cost than the structure it self and I wasn't convinced that it wouldn't all blow away again when it came to clearing up the leaves.....

So I did a Google search for playground surfacing and read up about the 'pour in place'. It looked good and there were no costly borders. But a better choice of colors.  But it wasn't cheap either.  Was beginning to think there was no solution.  But where as the chips options need replacing over time, this is in its place and isn't going to degrade. Also I was not going to have rabbits and squirrels digging around in there either.  We thought long and hard about having it down.  Would it fade?  Was it guaranteed?  Could we really justify getting it?

As my kids are now older we opted for a higher swing set so those falling off meant more injuries.  Not only was that but having their friends over to play was another factor.  A friend of ours had a daughter who broke her arm playing on someone else's' play structure.... with only grass on the ground. True, there is nothing to say they won't fall and still hurt themselves on 'pour in place' but its like putting a big pillow down for them - it softens the fall.

Rob and his crew gave us a good estimate.  It was about the same as the chips option and all the borders.  And it should last way longer.  They turned up when they said they would, they tidied everything away at night and they made sure we were happy with the job.  They didn't knock on the door demanding money before we had had a good look and approved it.  We are more than happy with them.  The play area looks SO NEAT.  It blends so well with the grass and come fall it won't be any different than clearing the leaves of the grass.

On a recent trip to England the children were playing on a slide.  My 1 year old took a tumble climbing up the steps.  Luckily they had 'pour in place' underneath.  He cried but he wasn't too hurt.  I dread to think what would have happened if it wasn't as soft.  As if I wasn't already pleased with the job Imagination Playground Surfacing did, I knew then that I was relieved I had spent a little extra and got the safest for my kids.  Rob Kirk's photos show his jobs and he is more than helpful with estimates and showing you the product.  I would really urge anyone to weigh up all the pros and cons and think about the product's longevity and the safety we all want to provide for our kids."
